Our Story

How it all started...

Pastor Josh was called by the Lord in 2021 to plant a church in Shallotte, North Carolina.  His vision was shared and affirmed by Pastor Chris Vernon, Crosswinds Church, Leland, North Carolina. Crosswinds holds a special place in our story by providing prayer, leadership, and financial support from the earliest days of Tidal Creek.

The name Tidal Creek Church came about after a long process of considering different names. Our desire was to have a name that both reflected our home community of Shallotte and provided a picture of our vision. Shallotte is a town marked by its roaming and calm tidal creeks meandering throughout the town and surrounding communities. Tidal creeks also provide a calm and safe inlet from the power and uncertainty of the ocean’s violence. We believe this ties in well with our vision to “Be an Oasis of Grace in a World Filled with Judgment.” In the same way an oasis provides refuge from the severity of the desert, so a tidal creek provides refuge from the wildness of the ocean.

Tidal Creek Church was launched in Pastor Josh’s living room in September, 2022.  There were 8 people at the first service. Over the next several months additional families joined Sunday services in the Glagola’s living room.

After much prayer and planning, Tidal Creek moved from the living room and held its first service as a “soft” launch at Shallotte Middle School on March 5, 2023, with our “official” first service held on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023, with 25 people in attendance.
After nearly two years meeting at Shallotte Middle School, Tidal Creek moved to its current facility at 4949 Main Street in Shallotte. The first service in the new facility was January 5, 2025. Since the moved, we have experienced the power, provision, and presence of the Lord continuing to form us in to the church He wants us to be.

How we Live Out Our Story...

Tidal Creek has always participated in community events. We desire to be a church that is a blessing and has a presence in our community. Our community involvement includes sponsoring a table at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) annual banquet and fundraiser supporting FCA ministries in Brunswick County, as well as helping to reestablish the chapter at Shallotte Middle School; participating in the Halloween Trunk or Treat events at the Town of Shallotte, Ocean Isle Beach, and Sunset Beach; staffing an information table at the Shallotte Christmas market; volunteering to support the Shallotte Easter egg hunt; forming a deep and wide ranging partnership with Christian Recovery Centers; and so much more.
